Everybody Floats

Hasselblad 500cm 80mmCF, Acros.

Everything seems to revolve around floating and I do mean this somewhat literally. Anywhere these is a water way be it ocean or river there is every means of use of it underway at any one time. Be it fishing, washing, swimming, or transport, to name a few; they all happen every day some with more regularity then others. The means of floating on the water comes in the way of sturdy, reliable, hand built wooden boats.

One of the more fascinating things for me was the elegance these vessels all seemed to share arising from such simplicity of geometry and design. I can imagine the same boat designs have been in use without variation for several generations, with the knowledge taught to each new builder as they come of age.

You might imagine therefore what returning to the western world was like, with the constant barrage of “new” and “improved” goods and services. This is by no means a new or original thought, but it was one of the lasting impressions bestowed upon me (and refreshingly so) from travel in this area.
